Extra Time to Relax

“Only 8% of our worries will come to pass. 92% of our worries are wasted. DON'T PANIC”Mark Gorman

Rest and Repair

Taking time to relax will refocus the brain and make you feel more alert allowing you to be more productive and feel full of energy. During relaxation your body is able to repair the damage it has incurred after a long day’s work. Staying in a relaxed frame of mind will better enable you to make the right calls at the right times.

There are many ways to stay relaxed during your day. This doesn’t have to mean sitting crossed legged, humming whilst listening to whale song.

Food

Your daily food choices play a vital role in affecting your mood. Eating refined, processed and fatty foods and caffeine can make you feel tired and low.

  • Always start the day with breakfast
  • Avoid stimulants like caffeine (3-4 cups max per day) as they deplete vitamins and minerals that keep your mood elevated.
  • Stay hydrated!!!!

Exercise

  • Have a regular exercise routine
  • Go for a walk at lunch if possible
  • Get outside in the fresh air as much as possible.

Breathing Exercises

Try this one a couple of times a day

  • Exhale completely through your mouth, making a whoosh sound.
  • Close your mouth and inhale quietly through your nose to a mental count of four.
  • Hold your breath for a count of seven.
  • Exhale completely through your mouth, making a whoosh sound to a count of eight.
  • This is one breath. Now inhale again and repeat the cycle three more times for a total of four breaths.

These are all little changes that when put together can make a significant difference to your overall health and wellbeing.

Next month we’ll look at the best possible way to relax, sleeping!

Don’t let your health take a break while you’re on holiday

holidayThe football season is now coming to an end for many of you, and before you know it the new season will be upon us. So now is the time to make the most of the holiday you do have. It is important that you use this period to spend some quality time with your family and friends, and engage in activities/holidays that will help you un-wind.

Use this time to put your wellbeing at the forefront. Take this opportunity to get out on the golf course, get some projects finished around the house or even book yourself a holiday. By spending a week or so away from work related tasks, and concentrating on you and your family it will allow your mind to rest, and help recharge your batteries ready for the new season ahead.

You may find it quite hard to ‘switch-off’ from work when it’s such a big part of your lifestyle, but below are a few tips to help you;

  • Switch off your mobile phone when spending time with family/friends.
  • Engage yourself in a regular exercise routine; partaking in an activity you enjoy e.g. golf, tennis or running.
  • Eating a healthy balanced diet will recharge & re-fuel your body.
  • Having a good night’s sleep, try and get into a routine of a regular bedtime.
  • Laughter triggers the release of ‘feel good’ hormones & helps relax your whole body.

You could also use this time to have a full health MOT & use this time efficiently to work on some health & fitness related goals, starting a good routine before you head back to work.
